Northern Lights Time-lapses - Akureyri, Northern Iceland - 14-15th November 23
Here's a quick selection of time-lapses I shot while in Akureyri, Northern Iceland this month. This was my first real attempt at doing some northern lights time-lapses so still in the learning process and a few things I think I would do differently next time - but for now, enjoy!

    Great work my friend! I've tried growing seven Sequoia's over the last 3 years, but they all die within weeks. I acquired them as 5 inch seedlings & really cared for them, any idea's why my friend? The brown colouring works its way up from the base, then they just die, it's a real sickener.

    hey, could I get your advice? I had around 6 or 7 seeds germinate. but they all died eventually before growing to more than an inch high. no direct sun, no excess water and they didn't dry out. any ideas?

    • @GeorgeMaier
      @GeorgeMaier 28 дней назад

      Most common reason is fungal infection. They’re very prone to fungal infections at that age. Let them be drier, let them have some sun, keep them outside if possible, all of these things help stop the fungus.

    Have you tried "priming" the seeds with ethylene? There was recent research on that (google "ethylene seed sprouting" and look at some articles from 2023) which claimed the plants were growing substantially bigger then those that didn't get a sniff of ethylene as seed. Might be funny to experiment with.

    The Man Who Germinated Trees. Well done! Hope they all go to good homes that take good care of them. If so, you'll have sequestered more carbon than you've used in your entire life by the time those trees are mature.

    5:00 I realize this is an older video and you might not have the data anymore, but I would be curious to compare what the entire time to germination (including the 24hr soak and varying cold stratification times) to see if a pattern emerges. Perhaps there is a typical amount of time from when the seeds receive water and start the process until they germinate, and the cold stratification is simply preventing any early bloomers from getting a head start?

    Has anyone tried the Sequoia Sempervirens in the UK? These tall trees live on the coast. One tree named Hyperion is 116 meters tall (380'). Their trunks grow 5-8 meters in diameter. They grow fast until they are over 30 meters tall and then more slowly. Thirty-meter trees are common in California backyards. They tolerate temperatures -9C to 38C well, with the mean temperature between 10C and 16C. There is also a Chinese Sequoia that grows more slowly than the other two kinds but is deciduous and has beautiful foliage.

    You’re a king. Stumbled on this vid literally 2 minutes after scarifying the seed coat of my two sequoia seeds and setting them in water.. I can’t stratify them anymore because they’ll freeze but this is an incredible video. You have done great work and I thank you.

    This is great. I grew a hundred sequoias on my balcony this year, before watching this video, and would have had much better success with these tips I think. I've got 500 or so metasequoia glyptostroboides seeds from local trees that I'm thinking I'll try to replicate these ideas and see how I go with. Will report back.
